Storytelling Competiion
Today the final round was held for Chung Dau’s annual Storytelling Competition. 55 Finalists battled it out in front of their peers, bravely overcoming their inevitable nerves and stage fright. Today’s final was the culmination of two weeks’ worth of internal class competitions, where all students were invited to participate in. For two weeks, during every break, the corridors were filled with groups of students, honing their story-telling skills in front of their friends, hoping that they will make it to the final.
Storytelling is a vital language skill for not only children, but for speakers of all ages to have. A good story teller enthrals his audience, transporting them to the scene and setting of his story. The art of storytelling is not so much in the words that are spoken, but how they are delivered, how realistic a picture the rise and fall of one’s voice can evoke emotions in the audience.
For learners of English, especially learners of English as a Foreign language, storytelling is especially challenging, making today’s achievements that much more extraordinary!
